Why a turbo upgrade involves more than the turbo
A hybrid turbo keeps the original turbo's housings and mountings but flows more air than the standard unit. What the engine does with that extra air depends on the rest of the car: enough fuel to match it, an engine calibration written for the new parts, an exhaust that lets gas flow away from the turbine, internals and valves that cope with the extra load, and suspension that can put the result on the road.
GP Turbos, in Scunthorpe, builds hybrid turbos and hybrid cores, and carries out turbo rebuilds and reconditioning. The brands below make parts for the rest of that list, and one of them makes billet compressor wheels for the turbo itself. In 2020, GP Turbos' website named five of them (Newman Cams, Jetex, DTAFast, Hardwire Electronics and Eibach) as suppliers whose parts customers could order through GP Turbos.
