What Turbosmart makes
By Turbosmart's account, founder Nic Cooper started the business in 1997 with two products, a blow-off valve and a boost controller, which he first machined in his parents' garage. The company says it manufactures and assembles its products at a single site, at Wetherill Park in Sydney. Its UK office was set up to serve the UK, Europe, the Middle East and South Africa.
The UK range includes GenV external wastegates, electronic wastegates, IWG75 internal wastegate actuators, blow-off valves (also sold as dump valves and diverter valves), boost controllers such as the eBoost2, fuel pressure regulators, turbo oil pressure regulators and intercoolers.
Turbosmart and a turbocharged build
These parts act on the turbo directly. A wastegate lets exhaust gas bypass the turbine to limit boost, a boost controller changes the pressure at which the wastegate opens, and a blow-off valve releases charge pressure when the throttle closes. Turbosmart presents its IWG75 actuators as upgrades for turbos with an internal wastegate, offering more spring choices and a wider range for boost control. A hybrid turbo that keeps its original housings keeps its internal wastegate too, where the original had one.
