What Newman Cams makes
Newman Cams' range covers performance camshafts, followers and rocker arms, for car, motorcycle and industrial engines, and it will grind a one-off cam to a customer's own data. By the company's account, David Newman began grinding performance camshafts in 1967, using a Churchill grinder he had adapted himself, and between 1998 and 2002 the company made camshafts for Formula 1, Formula 3, touring car, GT, Le Mans and MotoGP use.
Each Newman cam carries a Phase number, from Phase 1 for road use to Phase 5 for full race.
Newman Cams and a turbocharged build
The 2025 Newman catalogue lists turbo profiles, among them the Volkswagen Golf and Audi TT 20-valve turbo, the Cosworth YB, the Ford CVH RS Turbo, the Mini R56 N14 and the Porsche 924 Turbo. It also lists cams for the 1.9 TDI (turbocharged direct injection) PD (Pumpe Düse) diesel, with Newman's note that reprogramming the engine control unit helps to get the full benefit.
In 2020, GP Turbos' website named Newman Cams as one of its UK suppliers, and customers could then order Newman parts through GP Turbos. GP Turbos' shop also listed a Newman 276-degree camshaft kit for the 8-valve 1.9 TDI PD, next to hybrid turbos for the same engine.
